Kvarner scampi are an especially valuable local ingredient. This seafood delicacy is available only here and is characterised by its specific size and shade of red, its thin shell and rich flavour. Embark on a quest for this highly sought-after food, learn about the everyday life of Opatija’s fishermen, and taste scampi in the way that brings out its special aroma - fresh and raw, marinated in extra virgin olive oil with some lemon juice.

The itinerary lasts for two days. The first day includes a visit to a fisherman’s home, where you will learn about scampi fishing. In return for this information, you can help prepare for the fishing trip, which includes mending the traps, checking the weather conditions, planning the sailing route and fishing zone, and preparing the fishing gear, boat equipment and protective clothing and footwear. While taking a break from your duties, you can savour a fisherman’s marenda snack with scampi, or purchase some scampi yourself and prepare it à la buzara – in a sauce that accentuates its taste and aroma. You can get the best recipe for this dish directly from the people who know scampi best – the local fishermen.

On the second day, you can take part in an eight-hour scampi fishing trip, during which you will learn how to take the full traps out of the sea, how to put back the empty ones (which will be taken out during the next trip), and also how to sort the catch.
